Diabetes Mellitus
A group of diseases that result in too much sugar in the blood
Hypertension
A condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
A type of obstructive lung disease characterized by long-term breathing problems and poor airflow
Asthma
A condition in which a person's airways become inflamed, narrow and swell and produce extra mucus, which makes it difficult to breathe
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
A disease that narrows the small blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to the heart
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
A type of heart failure which requires seeking timely medical attention, although sometimes the two terms are used interchangeably
Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
Also known as a Stroke. It occurs when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced
Myocardial Infarction (MI)
A type of heart disease caused by blood flow blockage to the heart muscle
Cancer
A group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
The gradual loss of kidney function over time
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
A long-term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints
Osteoarthritis (OA)
A type of arthritis that occurs when flexible tissue at the ends of bones wears down
Osteoporosis
A condition in which bones become weak and brittle
Parkinson's Disease
A progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement
Alzheimer's Disease
A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
A potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord
Lupus Erythematosus
An autoimmune disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs
Psoriasis
A skin disorder that causes skin cells to multiply up to 10 times faster than normal
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
A disorder that leads to recurring pain in the abdomen, changes in bowel movements
Crohn's Disease
A type of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract
Ulcerative Colitis
A digestive disease that causes long-lasting inflammation and sores in the innermost lining of your large intestine and rectum
Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD)
A condition that causes stomach acid to eat away the protective lining of the stomach, may also be caused by H. pylori infection.
Hepatitis
Inflammation of the liver caused by a virus
Cirrhosis
A severe liver disease that interferes with normal liver function
Tuberculosis (TB)
A potentially serious infectious bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs
HIV/AIDS
An incurable disease of the immune system transmitted through blood products especially by sexual contact or contaminated needles
Influenza
A contagious viral infection that attacks your nose, throat and lungs
Pneumonia
An inflammatory condition of the lungs primarily affecting the microscopic air sacs known as alveoli
Bronchitis
Inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes
Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
An inherited life-threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system
Sickle Cell Disease
Group of inherited red blood cell disorders
Hemophilia
A disorder in which blood doesn't clot normally
Anemia
Condition characterized by a lack of healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues
Hypothyroidism
A disorder in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone
Hyperthyroidism
A disorder in which your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine
Gout
A type of inflammatory arthritis that is often likened to rheumatoid arthritis
Fibromyalgia
A disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, and mood issues
Endometriosis
A disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus grows outside of your uterine cavity
